Accessibility

Everyone should be able to find, read and cook these recipes. Here’s what I’ve done to make that possible, and how to tell me if something isn’t working.

The short version

  • This site aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
  • It works with a keyboard and screen readers, text scales with your settings, and text meets contrast guidelines.
  • If something doesn’t work for you, tell me and I’ll fix it.

The standard I’m aiming for

I aim for this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These are the internationally recognized guidelines for making websites usable for people with disabilities.

What I’ve done

  • Readable text: body text meets WCAG AA contrast, and text sizes scale with your browser and device settings.
  • Keyboard friendly: a “Skip to content” link, visible focus outlines, and menus, forms and accordions that work without a mouse.
  • Screen reader support: clear page headings, labeled form fields and buttons, and descriptive alt text on photos.
  • Easy to tap: buttons and links are large enough to tap comfortably on a phone.
  • Calm motion: no autoplaying video, and the site respects your “reduce motion” setting.
  • Recipe card: ingredients you can check off, adjustable servings, and a cook mode that keeps your screen on.

Known limitations

  • Third-party content: ads, the Instagram feed and embedded videos come from other companies, and I can’t fully control their accessibility.
  • Older posts: I’m moving hundreds of recipes from my old site. Some older photos may not have full descriptions yet, and I’m working through them.

How this was checked

This statement is based on a self-review of the site against WCAG 2.2 AA, with automated and manual checks, completed on 17-10-2026. I’ll review it again whenever the site changes significantly.
